Alex Bowman will lead the field to the green flag for the 60th running of the Daytona 500 next Sunday.
Bowman posted a lap time of 46.002 seconds Sunday in his No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Daytona International Speedway, edging Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota for the top spot by 13 one-hundredths of a second.
The pole is the Hendrick Motorsports driver’s second career top start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
The team has now won the pole for the Daytona 500 in each of the last four seasons with three different drivers (Jeff Gordon, 2015; Chase Elliott 2016 and 2017).
Bowman has one prior start in the Daytona 500, finishing 23rd in the 2014 race.
