Aric Almirola’s top-ten effort in the Toyota Owners 400 Sunday at Richmond International Raceway produced his best finish since the season opening Daytona 500.
Almirola finished ninth on the lead lap, his highest finish in eight races. It was his sixth lead lap finish in the last seven races.
“It was a solid day for us,” Almirola said. “I am really proud of everybody on the Smithfield Ford Fusion here. We had a good day. We needed that.”
“We typically run well here. This is one of our better tracks. It is great to get a good solid finish here in Richmond, Virginia. Smithfield headquarters aren't far away and we had a lot of friends and family of employees at the race. It was a solid top-10 and I am really proud of the effort today.”
Almirola finished the first stage of the race in 12th and the second stage in 18th.
Almirola overcame a pass-through penalty under green flag conditions for a commitment line violation on lap 319.
Entering Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway, Almirola unofficially sits 19th in driver’s standings. He is 12 points behind the Chase cutline. SOURCES Racing-Reference.info IMAGES Chris Trotman/NASCAR via Getty Image
