We all know who Brad Keselowski is. He’s the guy who doesn’t take anything from anybody. He has that “you hit me, I wreck you” style of driving. And since he joined Penske Racing going back to 2009 as a part-time driver, he has become one of the most popular drivers on the circuit. He is currently sitting at six total career wins, two of those wins coming this year. But some may argue that Keselowski is only a rising star in the sport. Which, for Keselowski, would mean he still has great things to come.
Let’s go back to 2009, shall we? We all remember the 2009 Aaron’s 499. Coming through the tri-oval, Carl Edwards was sent into the catchfence by giving Keselowski for the win. If you were like me, you thought that it was just a fluke on Keselowski’s part. But let’s fast forward to 2011. Remember Kansas? Keselowski hadn’t led all day up until the final stretch of the race in which he used fuel mileage to win the race. Once again everyone thought it was a fluke. But wait! Let’s go to Pocono. Now Keselowski may have not been in the lead all day, but he was sure in contention. What did that lead to? A win. I think that was the point in which everyone thought he was truly a good driver.
But there was more to come for the young Keselowski. The Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol was the race in which he made a statement by beating Martin Truex Jr. and Jeff Gordon, two drivers who had been in the top 5 most of the night. And now Keselowski sits at six wins and two in 2012. So the question stands: Is Brad Keselowski at the top of his game or does he still have some learning to do? Does he have a team change in his future? One thing is for sure, he’s making a statement as a household name in the Sprint Cup Series.
