LAS VEGAS—Ryan Blaney and Kevin Harvick will lead the field to the green flag in the Pennzoil 400 Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after posting the fastest two times in the final round of qualifying on Friday.
Blaney posted a time of 28.200, edging Harvick for the pole by 18 one-hundredths of a second.
“I don’t want to say it surprised me, but we made really good changes from practice to qualifying,” Blaney said.
This was Blaney’s third career pole and first in 2018.
Harvick, who will start outside the front row, picked up his best starting position in the last seven races.
“I knew I wasn’t where I needed to be coming to the green like I needed to,” he said. “The last round, I nailed it coming to the green and the obviously the lap time was a lot better. A great starting spot.”
Ford swept the front row in a MENCS race for the first time in 16 races, dating back to the Michigan race in August of 2017.
Las Vegas native Kurt Busch will start third, Martin Truex Jr. will start fourth and Kyle Larson will start fifth.
The Pennzoil 400 will run Sunday afternoon with television coverage on FOX.
