FORT WORTH—Kyle Busch now leads the competition in stage points after the first seven Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Busch scored 19 points Sunday en route to his victory at Texas Motor Speedway, bringing his season total to 89.

When you’re up front, you’ve got good pit stops and you have fast racecars, that obviously is two-fold, It comes to you pretty easily,” Busch said.

Brad Keselowski, who was the stage points leader entering Texas, has the second most with 80 points. Kevin Harvick has earned the third most at 73 points.

Jamie McMurray earned stage points for the first time in 2018, netting four points at the conclusion of Stage 1.

Overall, 27 competitors have earned stage points in 2018.

With the exception of the Coca-Cola 600 in May, every points-paying race in 2018 is broken up into three stages.

Each of the first two stages pays out points to the top-10 finishing drivers. A first-place finish gets 10 points, second-place gets nine points, and so forth.
