LAS VEGAS—As the only driver making their Cup Series debut Sunday, Cole Custer finished 25th driving the No. 51 Ford for Rick Ware Racing in the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The California-native started the race in the 30th position. The driver went one lap down just 30 laps into the event.
Custer advanced one position to finish the first stage in the 29th position, and finished the second stage in 25th.
When the checkered flag flew, Custer ultimately in the 25th position, three laps down.
Custer reflected on his first experience racing in NASCAR’s top-tier series.
“The biggest thing was just restarts,” Custer said. “I think that’s where I struggled the most just being confident.
“Being able to keep track position was the biggest thing, but once when we got going on the long run, we were fairly decent. Just me getting used to the short runs is the biggest thing.”
When asked if he would be competing in any more Cup events this season, the 20-year-old said there are no plans to at this time.
