DOVER, Del.—Four Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers participated in a Goodyear Tire Test at Dover International Speedway Tuesday to test out a new tire for the fall race in Dover.
The drivers who participated in the tire test were Matt Kenseth, Landon Cassill, Joey Logano and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Matt Kenseth was made available to the media during a break in the test, and talked with The Racing Experts about what he had learned during the test.
“So far probably nothing,” he said. “Hopefully this afternoon we’ll maybe learn some stuff but this morning we’re just getting rubber in the track and trying to run some different tires for Goodyear.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr., a one-time winner at the one-mile oval, was asked about his thoughts on the tire test.
“I think a lot of drivers wouldn’t mind change in the tire and hopefully, it’s basically on our shoulders, me and the other drivers here to make sure we pick the right one,” he said. “So if we come here and race and none of the drivers like the tire then it’s a bit disappointing because you’re kind of given the responsibility for that. So we’ll see how it works out.”
We also caught up with Joey Logano, who currently sits outside the playoff cutline.
“Well we have to [win], there’s not really much of an option at this point,” Logano said.
“We’ve had a rough couple of months for sure and we’ve gotten better and I think last weekend at Indy we had an opportunity to win. So the speed is back in our car and we were able to score stage points in each stage.
“We’re definitely getting closer and more competitive, we just have to make up from losing a lot of points over the last couple months from crashes and just stupid things happening.”
