FONTANA, Calif.—In spite of a 51 points cushion, Carl Edwards isn’t monitoring his position in points.

Edwards, who sits fifth in driver standings entering this weekend’s race at Auto Club Speedway, is the second-highest ranked Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

“I don’t know where we’re at in points so we’re not monitoring yet,” Edwards said to The Racing Experts Friday. “We want to get a win, maybe two wins, and then I’ll feel comfortable.

“When we’re locked in, that’s when you’re comfortable. In this sport so many things can happen. I think until you’re locked into that thing it’s something you think about definitely for me.”

The February 2008 ACS winner has placed inside the top-five three times this season, the most of any driver.
