BRISTOL, Tenn.—The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is headed back south to the mountains of eastern Tennessee this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway (7:30 P.M. E.T. Saturday, NBC).
Ten drivers in the field Saturday at Bristol are past winners at the speedway. The five most recent date back to 2014.
2017 - JIMMIE JOHNSON
The series last visited the .533-mile short track in April, and it was Johnson who was able to claim victory in the weather-postponed Food City 500.
With 20 laps remaining, Johnson, on fresher tires, passed the defending race winner, Kevin Harvick, for the lead.
Johnson would not need to look back as he sailed to his second career victory at Bristol, leading 81 laps in the process.
2016 - KEVIN HARVICK
The 2014 Champion started 24th on Saturday and finished 1st on Sunday after rain halted the action on lap 38.
After passing Denny Hamlin for the lead with 71 laps remaining, Harvick sailed away from the field and won by 1.933 seconds over runner-up Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
2015 & 2014 - JOEY LOGANO
Joey Logano has had a lot of success in the night race at Bristol, winning two of the last three races under the lights at The Last Great Colosseum.
Logano led for a combined 252 laps in his two victories at the high banked oval.
The No. 22 team is in a must-win situation if they want to be a part of the 2017 playoffs.
2015 - MATT KENSETH
Matt Kenseth started from the pole and survived an overtime finish in the Food City 500.
The 2003 Champion led the final 34 laps and held off a late charge by Jimmie Johnson to claim his fourth victory at the speedway.
The victory ended a 51-race winless streak for Kenseth, who netted a berth in the 2015 playoffs.
Kenseth would ultimately finish 15th in the championship standings. IMAGES Brian Lawdermilk/Getty Images Matt Courson/The Racing Experts
