Election cycles can provide opportunities for candidates to find unique ways to promote their campaigns.

From governors to presidential hopefuls, NASCAR racecars have featured the campaigns of George W. Bush and Rick Santorum.

The last two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races have featured the No. 08 Chevrolet decaled with a political campaign.

Korbin Forrister and SS-Greenlight Racing have sported a “Trump For President” paint scheme at Eldora Speedway and Pocono Raceway, a move Forrister and the team have elected to do themselves. The colors debuted at Eldora in July, and the reception has been surprising to Forrister.

“There’s positive and negative (reactions) to come out of it, but that’s my personal opinion,” he said to The Racing Experts. “I support Trump for what he’s trying to do for this country. I expected a little bit more negativity, but most of its positive, the comments and stuff. (I like) it, I’m doing my own thing.”

Forrister, a first-year full-time driver in the Truck Series, says he has even been contacted by Trump’s people.

“They’ve seen it, and they’ve said some comments about it, that they liked it,” he said.

According to Forrister, the message and colors on the truck will stay as long as they can until he can “find someone that funds me.”

Forrister’s best finish with the Trump colors was 24th at Eldora, and his best finish this season is a 12th place finish in the season opener at Daytona.

Forrister, who has started every race this season, sits 13th in driver points, 95 points back of the top-ten. Yet, the plan is to finish out the season, and possibly jump in NASCAR’s second-tier series.

“…If we can find funds, we want to finish out the rest of this year, (and) may jump in a couple Xfinity races,” he said. “We’ve got some plans going for next year.”
