DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—In the opening minutes of opening practice for the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Daytona International Speedway Thursday, Spencer Gallagher experienced a loose left-rear tire in Turn 2 and drifted toward the top of the track, collecting rookie Cole Custer.

Gallagher, who has failed to finish in the Top-30 four times in the last six races, will be making his third career start at Daytona in the No. 23 Allegiant Airlines Chevrolet. Gallagher finished 8th and 36th in his last two starts at Daytona.

Custer will be seeking redemption at Daytona, after being collected in a crash in February and finishing 37th.

The damage to the vehicles were too extensive to repair, and both teams decided that bringing out the backup car would be the best decision.
