The Racing Experts: What has been keeping you busy this year?

Geoff Bodine: “[My wife and I] have a Honda Powersports store down here in Melbourne, Florida. I do a lot down here with the Melbourne Police Foundation with the Alzheimer’s Program, I go to a lot of car shows, to help sell tickets [and for raffles]. The money goes back to the Alzheimer’s Program.

“We’re very busy with the community here, and that’s a great thing, we enjoy it. But mainly, stay at the Honda Store, and ride some motorcycles once in a while. Florida is a great place to ride motorcycles, you can ride them year-round.”

The Racing Experts: What are your thoughts on the new Generation 6 car?

Geoff Bodine: “They look great! I was up in Daytona one weekend they were testing, watching and talking to some of the drivers, they all love ‘em.

“You can actually tell the brands and makes, which is nice. The new cars, the way the bumpers are, they can’t push each other like they used to, so that’s good. They’re going to have to race like we used to race–drafting with a little distance and slingshots, but no more pushing around the track, it doesn’t work. I’m sure they’ll try, and some will be able to do it, but it’s going to be very difficult.”

The Racing Experts: With the Daytona 500 next week, what are your plans for Speedweeks and the race?

Geoff Bodine: “I’m going to be busy! I’m working with an ARCA team, so they go in early. I’ll be there to watch the Shootout [and] the qualifying races. Saturday, I can’t be there. I have to go to a car show in Cape Coral, Florida to promote some other things, but, of course, for Sunday, I’ll be at the Daytona 500. ”

The Racing Experts: Do you plan on attending any more races this year?

Geoff Bodine: “Well, it depends how this coaching, mentoring, spotting, thing goes. I might be going to all the ARCA races, or try to work with a K&N team. [If] I do a good enough job, maybe Carl Edwards or Joey Logano will want me to spot for them. I don’t know, I’m just kidding.” (laughs)

The Racing Experts: What are some of your predictions for the season?

Geoff Bodine: “Are you crazy? I thought the 49ers were going to win the Superbowl, and now you’re asking me about what’s going to happen in NASCAR?” (laughs)

“I don’t have a crystal ball, I’m not a good predictor. But it’s going to be a great season. The new cars are going to make the racing better, there’s no question about it.

“Who’s going to be on top? Your guess is as good as mine. We’ll have some surprises, I’m sure. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens, it’s going to be interesting!”
