Geoff’s Journal: Final thoughts on 2016 and outlook on 2017

February 9, 2017

We are one month into 2017 and it’s been a busy year thus far.

I’m thankful to continue sharing my thoughts, insights and opinions with everyone for another season here at The Racing with our first installment this year.

Looking back on 2016
Last year started with myself working with Bo Lemastus in the ARCA Series with his Crosley Brands sponsored car. We had some good runs and some okay runs, but Bo made great strides as a driver.

Midway through the year, he decided to stop with the team. With his daughter in school and needing to continue with his role at Crosley, Bo put the racing on hold and went back to work.

Of course, that gave me some free time not needing to travel to test sessions and race weekends.

We still got to go to the NASCAR race weekend at Kentucky Speedway to help present the Crosley Jukeboxes to all three winners.

The drivers want to win the races to get the jukeboxes. I think other than the championship trophy or a Daytona 500 trophy, the jukebox is definitely towards the top of the list.

We also gave the winners of the XFINITY Series and ARCA races in September jukeboxes at Kentucky Speedway.

I also got the chance to work on bobsleds in North Carolina the Chinese plan on using for the Winter Olympics in 2018.

That took time, and I had a few guys help with preparation, but we finished those up over the course of a month-and-a-half.

Plans in 2017
As many of you know, I have been a supporter of our president since day one and feel he is what we need for our country.

Bo and I had talked about going to the inauguration, and would have loved to be there, but did not end up going.

I know Bo will be attempting the ARCA Daytona race and I will be there with to help with his team wherever I am needed.

We had a successful test session at Daytona International Speedway in January in preparation for the season opener.

It was quite the surprise to get back to the track with the ARCA team, but since Bo has a car, the tools, engine and transporter, he said “Let’s go racing!”

The plan right now is just Daytona… Bo has an itchy gas pedal, but not itchy enough to run the full season.

I will also be helping a friend, George Alexander, who races in the Late Model Sportsman class at New Symrna, with his racecar throughout the year.

As for public appearances, I will be at a charity event at American Muscle Car Museum in Melbourne, Florida on Sunday, February 19. It’s a brand new museum and I’ll be helping with an event that aims to bring awareness to human sex trafficking and women who are forced into prostitution. I hope to see a lot of people come out to the event.

I will have the very first Bo-DYN Bobsled that ran at Lillehammer, Norway in 1994 on display at the event. Folks will be able to get in the sled and have their picture taken inside it. All we ask is for people to make a donation to the aforementioned charity.

Bo and I will also be giving the jukeboxes away again at the Kentucky race weekends in 2017. We want to expand the program, and have been talking with other track promoters about it.

You might also see me at some NASCAR race weekends this year as well, as I try to make it to the Daytona 500 and fall Charlotte race.

I still enjoy working and plan on staying busy throughout the year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 2017 and enjoys the time the Lord has given us to make the most of it.
