Four-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon will bring the field to the green flag at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this year, Team Chevrolet announced in a press release Thursday.

Gordon will drive the pace car, a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with a 6.2L direct-injected supercharged V8 engine, before the start of the 24th annual Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 23.

A five-time winner at the speedway, this will be the first Brickyard 400 Gordon will not compete in.

“It’s hard to believe this is the 24th running of the Brickyard 400,” Gordon said in the release. “This has been a very special race over the years, for me and NASCAR.

“Winning at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a dream of mine as a kid. I’m excited to lead the field to green at this year's Brickyard 400, and I appreciate [IMS president] Doug Boles and Chevrolet for giving me this opportunity.”

The Brickyard 400 will air on NBC.
