Rookie-of-the-year candidate Kyle Larson, who currently sits 13th in points heading into Daytona, likes his chances of qualifying for this year’s Chase for the Cup.
Larson spoke to the media Tuesday, talking about short-term racing plans as well as the performance of his No. 42 Target Chevrolet.
“We've just got to stay consistent and put ourselves in position like we have all year if we don't win a race to get into the Chase,” Larson said to The Racing Experts. “If we do win a race, that would be awesome. Just got to make sure we finish every race and can't have weekends like we've had the last couple races.”
Larson also said his team could not only make the Chase, but also be a championship factor in 2014.
“I think if we do get in the Chase, too, we're well capable enough to make it on each round to the final round at Homestead,” Larson said. “If we do get there, I'd be super confident that we'd pull it off, so I am hoping we can get into the Chase for sure. I think we have got a good shot.”

Despite seven top-ten finishes, and being inside the Chase cutoff since the Texas race weekend, a win would be needed to all but guarantee a spot in the post-season.
And because Daytona is “The Great Equalizer,” Larson, like his fellow 42 competitors, all have a shot of running well and posting a good finish.
“I think I have a good chance of winning as well as everybody else because the field seems to be really close when we go to superspeedways,” Larson said. “Everybody's confidence will be up, the racing will be intense, and just got to stay out of trouble.”
