Kyle Larson came away victorious in the FireKeepers Casino 400 Sunday at Michigan International Speedway, leading the final 15 laps en route to his second victory in NASCAR’s premiere series this year.

Larson held off charges from Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin on the final restarts after claiming the lead from Kyle Busch.

“We’ve been close to winning so many other races, finished second six different times, would be nice to have 30 more bonus points,” Larson said. “We’ll keep chipping away at it.”

Leading 26 laps, Martin Truex Jr. won the first stage.

Kyle Larson finished second, followed by Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth.

Pole sitter Kyle Larson led the opening 34 laps.

The stage saw two cautions; one for debris and a competition caution.

STAGE TWO (LAP 61-120)
Five drivers led laps in the second stage, but Martin Truex Jr. led the final five laps to score his tenth stage victory of 2017, the most of any driver.

Kyle Busch finished second in the stage, Kyle Larson was third, Matt Kenseth finished fourth and Clint Bowyer fifth.

Throughout the final stage, the caution flag waved four times, including three times for accidents.

The stage saw four lead changes among  three drivers; Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson.

Larson, who led a total of 96 laps in the race, claimed the lead on lap 185 after a restart from Busch.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver’s margin victory was .993 seconds over second-place Chase Elliott. Joey Logano finished third.

The victory is the third career win for Kyle Larson in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and second at Michigan International Speedway.

Larson reclaimed the points lead by five markers over Martin Truex Jr. heading into next Sunday’s race at Sonoma Raceway.

36 of the 37 starters were running at the finish of the race.

26 drivers finished on the lead lap.
