Casey Mears will race in the NASCAR XFINITY Series season finale this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in what could possibly be his last race with his current team.
Mears has posted two top-10 finishes in 13 starts this season in the No. 98 Ford for Biagi DenBeste Racing. The 39-year-old driver does not have his racing plans lined up yet for 2018.
“I don’t know yet, I really don’t have anything,” Mears said to The Racing Experts. “The landscape’s changed a lot, around here’s a lot of younger guys coming in. I was one of them at one point.”
2017 marks the California native’s first year since 2003 he had not competed in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. When talking about the XFINITY Series, Mears said there is a lack of quality rides available.
“There just isn’t a lot of seats open that you’d want to be in,” he said. “There’s stuff out there that you could still be at the track and still be a part of it, but I haven’t figured out how interested I am to doing something like that.”
Mears has won once in both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series.
