Monster Energy will remain as the title sponsor of NASCAR’s premier series through at least 2019, the sanctioning body announced Tuesday.
“NASCAR and Monster Energy enjoyed a productive first year and both parties have benefited significantly from the partnership,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR’s Chief Operating Officer, in a news release.
“Monster Energy successfully utilized our sport as a platform to elevate its brand and drive business, while introducing NASCAR to new audiences. With this renewal, we look forward to building upon our early success.”
NASCAR declined to comment on the monetary details of the sponsorship.
Monster was originally announced as the entitlement sponsor in December 2016, replacing Sprint. It was revealed the energy drink company initially had only signed up to be the entitlement sponsor through 2018.
The announcement Tuesday came out after much speculation as to whether Monster Energy would remain as the entitlement sponsor.
According to NBC Sports, Monster Energy had previously asked NASCAR for an extension to allow extra time to see if they wished to remain the entitlement sponsor of the Cup Series.
Previous entitlement sponsors of NASCAR’s premier series include Sprint, Nextel and Winston.
