A right-front problem Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway relegated Aric Almirola to his second 43rd place effort and DNF of 2015.

Almirola’s single-car accident in turn two brought out the race’s first caution on lap 37. Starting 15th, he ran as high as 14th position Sunday. He was running 16th prior to his incident.

“Something happened in the right-front and it’s really odd that it happened that early,” he said. “We ran a lot of laps in practice on a set of tires as well, so we thought we would have seen some issues in practice, but I don’t know. Something in the right-front broke or the right-front tire blew out and it just went straight when I got to turn one.”

Almirola wasn’t sure if a flat tire or an internal issue caused the incident.

“I honestly don’t know, it just went straight when I got to turn one,” he said. I honestly don’t know if it was something mechanical or a right-front tire went down, but whatever it was it wouldn’t turn when I got to the corner.”

Sunday’s race ended a streak of two consecutive top-ten finishes and three lead lap finishes for the Richard Petty Motorsports veteran.

Almirola will enter next Sunday’s race at Dover International Speedway 18th in driver points, the lowest he has been ranked in 2015.
