The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is headed to the Irish Hills of Southern Michigan. 39 drivers have entered in the Pure Michigan 400 (3:00 P.M. ET. Sunday, NBCSN).
DRIVERS TO WATCH
The driver of the No. 24 Napa Chevrolet has posted three consecutive runner-up finishes in his three career starts.
Elliott has led 66 laps around the two-mile Michigan International Speedway.
“It’s great, it’s also frustrating to have run second every time we have been there,” Elliott said.
“It’s good I guess that we are inside the top five the past few times we have been, but at the same time that is frustrating to have been pretty close to having a shot to win there which would have been very big if we could have pulled that out.”
In his last five starts, Logano has posted five top-10 finishes, including a victory in this race last year.
Logano has led for 169 laps in his last five starts.
The Connecticut native is in a must-win situation if he wants to make the 2017 NASCAR Playoffs.
Logano has finished outside the top-20 in nine of the last 13 races.
Larson had early success at the beginning of 2017, but has since been on a downward slide since the series last visited New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet has posted three consecutive finishes outside the top-20.
But don’t count him out.
Larson has two wins, three top-five finishes and one pole at the two-mile speedway.
“Again this weekend we’ll be looking to try and get things back on track after another disappointing race,” Larson said. “The last few weeks we’ve had a bit of everything go wrong from parts breaking to wrecks, so really hope we can have a strong weekend in Michigan.
“This track is obviously one where we feel really confident and know our Chevy can be competitive. Hopefully we can kind of regain our focus and put together a complete weekend with good laps in practice, a good qualifying effort and a strong race.”
