Elliott Sadler’s fifth place finish in Saturday’s Great Clips 250 at Michigan International Speedway marked the driver’s first top-five finish of 2015.
Sadler, in his first season with Roush Fenway Racing, picked up his best finish since a third place run at Phoenix International Raceway in November of last season. Sadler talked about his team’s performance Saturday.
“We had another pit penalty that got us behind,” he said. “We were able to make some good adjustments and I think some good strategy that got us back where we need to be. We are happy with it. I feel like we have something to move on.”
Sadler ran as high as third, averaging 12th place throughout the race.
Sadler said post-race working with teammate Chris Buescher played a role in helping his team this weekend.
“We will go from here. It was a great team effort. The 60 really helped us a lot this weekend and that is what teammates are all about so it is really cool that we finished fourth and fifth.”
Sadler lost two points overall to Buescher’s point lead, but remains sixth in points heading into next Saturday night’s race at Chicagoland Speedway. In 11 starts at Chicagoland, Sadler has averaged a 14.3 finish, including a win in July of 2012.
