Is Paul Menard looking at a career year in 2014?
Menard enters his fourth season with Richard Childress Racing. And, with the departures of Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick, becomes the senior driver at the team.
The veteran, however, has not become a household name since joining Richar Childress Racing in 2011, and has only managed to win one race, which should be noted, was on a fuel gamble.
Menard managed to stay inside the top-10 in points through the first third of the season, and in Chase contention through Sonoma. However, an engine failure at Daytona knocked the team too far out of contention to grab a Chase spot solely on wins.
Menard is known for fast starts to the season, as he has managed to score top-10 and top-5 finishes in the early half of the season, as seen since 2010. But, Menard tends to quietly “cool off” as the season progresses. Menard will need to have another fast start to 2014 to solidify chances at a Chase spot.
All hope is not lost for the driver, who enters his fourth season with RCR. The driver has shown his skills at the intermediate racetracks, as well as the short tracks. If Menard can knock off top-10 runs early in the season, and possibly a trip to victory lane, the driver could likely earn his first career Chase berth.
