The trip to Darlington Raceway was one of the top moments in NASCAR during the 50s through the early 90s for all those in love with the sport all the way from drivers to fans. The eggshell oval was unmatched by any other track. The original asphalt, which contained coral from the ocean, was the most destructive to race tires. It did not take long for drivers to understand racing the competition was simply secondary to racing the track which quickly became known as the “The Lady in Black”.

David Pearson loved the track. He loved finessing the “Lady” while trying to find his way to the checkered flag to take the win. One of his most memorable moments was in 1976 as the driver of the Wood Brothers Ford.

To celebrate his excellence in their race cars, the Wood Brothers, the oldest now 90, will race a throwback scheme to 1976 in the 20216 Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway over Labor Day weekend.

Enjoy this video provided by the Wood Brothers talking about their efforts in putting together this throwback scheme.
