After previewing their team late in 2011, with expectations that the team would run in 2012, Xxxtreme Motorsports is expected to make its NASCAR Sprint Cup debut at Phoenix Motorsports with David Reutimann as the driver.
Reutimann will run the #44 Chevy, with Frankie Kerr, formerly of JTG Daughtery Racing, as the crew chief. The team is currently housed at the old TRG Motorsports location in Mooresville, NC.
It was believed the team weren't going to in fact make a start at all, and that the car was instead a show car for special events. The team announced intentions to race in 2012, starting with the Daytona 500, with sponsorship from ADP/Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk. The team is believed to be owned by African American John Cohen.
There isn't much known about this team, with little
information on their website and not much about the team on their official twitter. Reutimann
has yet to confirm the details, so it's unclear what his plans are. He is out
of a ride for next week, with Danica Patrick racing in his usual #10 Chevy at
Phoenix, so this news could be in fact true. It's also not known whether or not
this team will just park it or whether or not they will in fact race the full
500 miles, but no matter what happens, with no owner points they first have to
actually make it on time.
