Bowman, the polesitter for the Spring Bristol race last year, posted a lap time of 15.368 seconds Saturday in qualifying

Bowman missed four races after a vertigo diagnosis, with Anthony Alfredo and Justin Allgaier taking the reins of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 entry.

“I think it’s no secret that it’s been a rough year on the No. 48 team, and the two of them (Alfredo and Allgaier) worked super hard to give it all they had,” Bowman said. “I’m appreciative of all their help.

“I spent a lot of time talking to Justin (Allgaier) today before I came in here, too. So, yeah, those guys were super helpful and really appreciate it.

Bowman laid down the 16th-fastest time in the single practice session prior to qualifying Saturday.

In 17 starts, Bowman has earned three Top-5 finishes, six Top-10 finishes and led laps in each of his last four starts at the Tennessee track.

After missing four races, Bowman is mired to 36th in points, 144 points behind the playoff cutline.

The Food City 500 is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET Sunday.
