‘Big 3’ among top 5 opening practice at Homestead

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick—dubbed “The Big 3” this season—were among the top-five fastest drivers in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series opening practice at Homestead-Miami Speedway Friday.

Truex Jr., the defending series champion and 2017, posted the quickest time at 31.035 seconds (173.997 mph), Busch posted the second-fastest time at 31.160 seconds (173.299 mph) and Harvick was fifth fastest at 31.245 seconds (172.828 mph).

Joey Logano, the fourth title contender, posted the 18th-fastest practice time, turning (3) laps.

All 39 drivers turned a lap in the 90-minute practice session.

The Ford EcoBoost 400 will be televised live on NBC Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
