NASCAR Cup qualifying results at Watkins Glen: Blaney beats SVG for pole
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — Ryan Blaney beat Shane van Gisbergen to start on the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen.


Blaney ran around the 2.45-mile road course in 71.96 seconds, while SVG ran it in 71.993 seconds. This is the second pole for Blaney in his whole Cup career, spanning now 366 starts across 12 seasons. Blaney has 12 career poles, including a pole in February at Atlanta.
Pole ace Chase Briscoe was the only other driver in the 71-second range, running a 71.997-second lap. The qualifying results show he will be third on the lineup for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen.

Jonathan Fjeld is the co-owner of the The Racing Experts, LLC. He has been with TRE since 2010.
A Twin Valley, MN, native, Fjeld became a motorsports fan at just three years old (first race was the 2002 Pennsylvania 500). He worked as a contributor and writer for TRE from 2010-18.
