DARLINGTON, S.C.—Chris Buescher was satisfied with his 13th place effort Sunday at Darlington Raceway.
The driver of the No. 37 Chevrolet ran inside the top-15 for a majority of the 367-lap Bojangles’ Southern 500 at the track dubbed “Too Tough to Tame.”
“I’m not disappointed in that (finish) at all,” Buescher said. “It’s not quite where I think we could’ve run. We had a tire that quartered on us really early in a run and that was a little strange. Other than that, we had a really solid night.
“The pit crew did an excellent job. Everybody on this Busch’s Best Since 1908 Camaro Zl1 did a great job this weekend by putting together a good piece. We weren’t the fastest car here.
“The last two races (Watkins Glen, Bristol) have been really good for us and to be 13th here, that’s definitely a good day for us and we need more like that. We need to get rid of some of these dips in our finishes and bring it up to this (finish) and finish our year out strong.”
The Cup Series heads North to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway next weekend for the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Presented by Florida Georgia Line.
Buscher has not finished outside the top-15 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his Cup Series career, but the driver noted that the finishes do not reflect on his performance at the 2.5-mile Yard of Bricks.
“We’ve gotten good finishes (at Indianapolis), but we haven’t run really well there,” he said. “We’ve stayed out of the mess or utilized strategy, but our cars aren’t very quick there. It’s a tough place for us, so like I said, I wish we were going to a short track instead. But we’ll take the momentum that we’ve built on.
“We do have some good stuff that we’ve learned and some good stuff coming, so we’ll take and apply that to Indy and everyone on our Kroger Clicklist JTG Daugherty Racing team will put their best foot forward and we’ll go have a solid run.”
Chris Buscher’s only win in the Cup series was at Pocono Raceway in 2016. He is currently 23rd in points and 114 points behind the playoff cutline.
Buscher’s only chance to make the playoffs this year is to claim victory next weekend in Indianapolis.
