Christopher Bell advances to Round of 8 with ROVAL victory

Christopher Bell’s walk-off victory in the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course earned the Joe Gibbs Racing driver a berth to the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Sunday, overtaking the lead from Kevin Harvick after the final restart in NASCAR Overtime.
The victory was Bell’s second of 2022 — marking his first multi-victory season in NASCAR’s elite series — and the third of his career.
“Really proud of everyone on this DeWalt team,” Bell said. “They deserve it, man. We’ve been trying so hard to get DeWalt in Victory Lane. We finally got this Camry here.”
Bell is now ranked fourth in points entering the first Round of 8 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday, three points ahead of the cutline.
Additionally, Bell is now in an 11-way tie for 100th on the NASCAR Cup Series all-time wins list. That tie includes the active drivers of Aric Almirola, Erik Jones, and Tyler Reddick.
The other drivers on that list with three wins are Bill Blair, Robby Gordon, Dick Linder, Frank Mundy, Elliott Sadler, Gwyn Staley and Brian Vickers.
Ahead of Bell on the wins list include William Byron, Austin Dillon, Pete Hamilton, Joe Nemechek, Nelson Stacy and Michael Waltrip — all with four NASCAR Cup Series victories.
The next race for the Cup Series is scheduled for next Sunday, Oct. 16, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
