Connor Zilisch to miss Texas Xfinity race with injury

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Connor Zilisch will sit out the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Texas Motor Speedway with a lower back injury.

Zilisch crashed hard into the inside wall while racing for the win on the final lap at Talladega Superspeedway. He complained of back pain over the radio but walked to the ambulance and was treated and released at the infield care center after getting out under his own power.

Adrenaline flowing in drivers after a crash can mask injuries that even a check in the infield care center may miss. The same situation as Zilisch happened last year at Talladega when Erik Jones crashed in turn three. He sat out multiple races due to a similar back injury.

It’s unclear if Zilisch will miss any other races beyond Texas. There is an off -weekend for the NASCAR Xfinity Series after Texas.

“Thank you to @KyleLarsonRacin for stepping up for me this weekend and everyone who has helped me through this process. Doing everything I can to be back as soon as possible,” Zilisch said.

Zilisch is virtually locked into the Xfinity Series Playoffs with a win earlier this season at Circuit of the Americas.
