Hemric in for Ty Gibbs at Phoenix; Ty out after father’s passing

AVONDALE, ARIZ. — Daniel Hemric will drive the No. 23 Toyota in place of Ty Gibbs, 23XI Racing confirmed.

Hemric was fitted for a seat Sunday morning after it was announced that Gibbs was ruled out due to a family emergency.

The family emergency was confirmed Sunday afternoon to be the death of Coy Gibbs, Ty’s father. Coy was 49.

Prior to 23XI confirming Hemric to the car, Brandon Jones was on-scene, as well as AJ Allmendinger, as the team worked to fit a driver for the car.

Hemric has made 46 NASCAR Cup Series starts, including eight this year for Kaulig Racing who approved his fill-in effort. His best Cup finish is 5th at Talladega in April 2019. He won the 2021 Xfinity championship for JGR and Toyota.
