Coming off his first national touring series NASCAR start of 2025 last Saturday in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, 57-year-old racer David Starr is planning on more races in the series this year.

Starr finished 26th at Darlington Raceway, driving for Joey Gase Motorsports and their No. 53 entry.

Although he is not ready to announce which races he will compete in, Starr said on his “Let’s Go Racing” podcast this week he will attempt more races with Gase’s team.

“Joey’s such a great friend of mine, good guy, and we’re trying to trying to finalize up maybe a 15, 20-race deal,” Starr said in response to a viewer question. “Hopefully I’ll have some news here really soon.”

Starr said his next scheduled Xfinity Series race is Texas Motor Speedway next month with Gase’s team.

Starr, a four-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series winner, has raced in the Xfinity Series 268 times, debuting in the series in 2000.

Starr raced in every event in the series in 2015, and from 2017 to 2019.

Starr has posted four career Top-10 finishes in the series, including a career-high fifth-place finish at Daytona in July 2017.

The Texas driver has also made 18 Cup Series starts, with his last coming at Martinsville in April 2024 for Garage 66.

Could more Cup races be on the horizon for Starr this year?

“I’m not right now, but my good friend Carl Long calls me all the time to ask me ‘Hey what what Cup race am I going to run,'” Starr said. ” I don’t have plans right now, but that could change in the near future. It’d be kind of cool to run another Cup race or two… that’s probably possible before the end of the year.”
