Denny Hamlin nets 46th win at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Denny Hamlin captured the checkered flag in the South Point 400 Sunday (Sept. 26) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for his second victory in 2021 and the 46th of his career.
Hamlin earned his second victory in four races, after opening the first 26 races of 2021 without a victory.
“We’ve just done a great job on this race track and getting it a lot better for me over the course of my career,” Hamlin said. “14 years of not really being that good. Chris (Gabehart, crew chief) and the whole FedEx team have been great – great ride with them.
“We’ve added another trophy to the trophy case and now we get to go and worry about the next round.,” Hamlin said.
Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Blaney rounded out the Top-5 finishers.
THROUGH THE FIELD
Tyler Reddick, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson rounded out the Top-10.
Chase Briscoe was the highest finishing rookie in 14th.
William Byron (18th), Alex Bowman (22nd) and Christopher Bell (24th) were playoff contenders outside the playoff cutline with two races left in the Round of 12.
OUTLOOK
The next scheduled race for the Cup Series is Sunday, Oct. 3 at Talladega Superspeedway.
