Elliott Sadler will be stepping away from full time racing in NASCAR at season’s end, according to a statement posted on the driver’s website.

“After much consideration and many conversations with my family, I’ve decided this will be my last season racing full time in NASCAR. It’s time for me, as a Dad, to help my kids pursue their dreams,” Sadler said.

“As I look back, I’ve had an amazing career thanks to an overwhelming amount of support from so many family members, friends, team members, corporate sponsors, and fans. The people are what make our sport so special.”

Sadler, 43, has been racing in NASCAR full-time since 1999. The driver has made 841 starts across all three of NASCAR’s top-tier series.

The Virginia native has been driving the No. 1 Chevrolet for Jr Motorsports since 2016 and noted that he wants to end his career on a high note.

“My work isn’t done just yet. Dale Jr., Kelly, and Mr. Hendrick have afforded me the opportunity to win races and championships at Jr Motorsports,” Sadler Said.

“We’re going to finish 2018 doing everything we can as a team to go out on top I love my guys and appreciate everything they’ve done for me since I came to JRM. It has been so much fun racing for Dale and Kelly because we’ve known each other for such a long time.

“It’s always fun to win and celebrate but its even more fun to do with lifelong friends. I’m going to give everything I have in the playoffs to end my career on a high note.”

Sadler is still searching for his first championship title. The driver has not finished worse than fourth in Xfinity points in six of the last seven years.  His last victory came at Kentucky Speedway in the Fall of 2016.
