INDIANAPOLIS— The National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis has issued a Flash Flood Watch for all of Central Indiana, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, that is set to begin Saturday at 8:00 a.m. E.T. and last through Sunday night.
The watch states that showers are likely on Friday, with widespread showers expected Saturday into Sunday. Meteorologists say the rain is expected to be heavy at times, especially on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, The rain on Friday will saturate the ground, so the weekend rain could lead to flash flooding.
The NWS office says that there remains some uncertainty on where the heaviest rain will fall.
At the time of publication, the NWS calls for a 70 percent chance of rain during the day on Saturday and 80 percent chance on Sunday, decreasing to a 60 percent chance during the night on Sunday.
Most of the rain will be gone by Monday, as the NWS gives the area a 20 percent chance of rain during the day.
The National Weather Service advises that people in the affected area monitor later forecasts and be prepared should a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
So far in the 2018 NASCAR season, two races have been postponed to Monday due to weather (Martinsville and Bristol 1). One event has been rain shortened, but was deemed an official race (Michigan 1).
