Jimmie Johnson tests positive for COVID-19

Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has tested positive for COVID-19, Hendrick Motorsports announced Friday (July 3).

Johnson will not race in July 5’s Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Justin Allgaier will replace Jonson behind the wheel of the No. 48.

Johnson has raced in every Cup Series race since the 2002 Daytona 500. His streak of 663 consecutive starts will come to an end.

Johnson, 44, entered this weekend’s race 12th in points,  earning six Top-10 finishes in 2020.

This is a developing story.
