Joey Logano earns second Pennzoil 400 pole in a row

LAS VEGAS — For the second year in a row, Joey Logano put his No. 22 Pennzoil Ford on the pole for the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Logano ran a lap averaging 184.357 MPH around the 1.5-mile oval. With that pole-winning lap, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has now either started or finished first in five of the last six years at Las Vegas:

  • Spring 2024: Pole
  • Spring 2023: Pole
  • Fall 2022: Win
  • Spring 2020: Win
  • Spring 2019: Win

This is the 30th pole Logano has earned in his Cup career. He is now one of 21 drivers in NASCAR history to earn 30 Cup poles and 30 wins — the 30/30 club, as Kurt Busch coined it.

Kyle Larson will start second Sunday. He hasn’t finished any worse than second in the last three spring races.

Austin Cindric will start third Sunday. It is his best start since starting third at Circuit of the Americas last season. Last season, he had six top-10 starts in the first eight races. This season, he has had top-10 starts in all three races so far.

Chase Briscoe starts sixth. Briscoe hasn’t started this well at a traditional intermediate track since starting fourth in the spring Las Vegas race two years ago.

Outside of the top-10, Carson Hocevar earned his best starting spot on a non-drafting-track. He starts 14th.

Hocevar’s 14th-place start is tied for Spire Motorsports’ fifth-best Cup Series qualifying effort on a non-drafting track.
