Joey Logano: ‘We have to fix it’

Joey Logano voiced his opinion on the product of the racing after his crash in the GEICO 500 Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway.

“I’m so proud to drive a Cup car that is safe, that I can go through a crash like that and get out and speak about it,” Logano said after his airborne lap 60 crash. “On one hand, I’m mad about being in the crash, on the other hand I’m just happy I’m alive.

“This is dangerous, doing what we’re doing. I got a rollbar in my head. That’s not okay.”

Logano’s No. 22 Ford slid upside down in Turn 3 before coming back to rest right-side-up.

“I’m one hit away from the same situation Ryan Newman just went through,” Logano said.

The crash happened on the last lap of Stage 1 while the 2018 series champion was running inside the Top-5.

Despite leading 10 laps, Logano finished 39th in the event, his second DNF of the 2021 season.

“I just don’t feel like that’s acceptable,” Logano said of the crash “…It’s a product of this racing, we have to fix it though.”
