Kyle Busch sees win slip with late-race spin
An opportunity to take his first NASCAR Cup Series win of the year slipped through Kyle Busch’s hands after spinning as the race leader with 31 laps to go in the Hollywood Casino 400.

While racing ahead of eventual race winner Ross Chastain, Busch attempted to lap Chase Briscoe as the two raced in Turns 1 and 2. Briscoe’s No. 14 Ford pulled in front of Busch’s No. 8 car as they exited Turn 2, causing Busch to check up and spin along the backstretch.
Busch didn’t make contact with the outside wall or another vehicle, ultimately pitting for fresh tires and finishing the race 19th.
“I am sure he was racing to stay on the lead lap with whoever was in front of him there,” Busch said. “Granted they have a race to run, but back in the old days when you were under 30 to go or whatever it was, lap traffic would kind of lay over and give you a lane and let the leaders race.
“I just wasnโt getting that, so I tried to force my hand into getting that and get to his outside, and for whatever reason, it just gave all the air in all the wrong places and I spun out.”
Six races remain for Kyle Busch to earn his first win of the season. Busch, the 2015 and 2019 series champion, has won at least one race since his rookie year of 2005 and holds the NASCAR record for consecutive seasons with at least one victory at 19.
Through the first 30 races, Busch has earned two second-place finishes, five total Top-5 finishes, 10 Top-10 finishes and 218 laps led.
Of the remaining tracks on the schedule, Busch has won at all venues in the Cup Series with the exception of the Charlotte Road Course.
The next race on the Cup Series schedule is Talladega Superspeedway is set for Sunday, Oct. 6, where Busch won most recently in April 2023.
Busch enters the race with a 51-race winless streak, dating back to June 2023 at Gateway (World Wide Technology Raceway).
