McDowell loses crew chief for Kansas race
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Michael McDowell will be without his regular crew chief for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway.

NASCAR ejected Travis Peterson after officials his Spire Motorsports team made unapproved adjustments to the splitter of the No. 71 Chevrolet after the second run through. Officials made the team reinstall the struts and found the adjustment made it so the car failed inspection.
McDowell will have to start at the rear of the field Sunday. Before completing the first lap of the race, he’ll also have to drive through pit road. The team also lost pit selection.
McDowell finished eighth at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last Sunday.
