NASCAR at Phoenix: Odds, times, lineups, results and more

PHOENIX — After the first true test of speed this NASCAR season, the Cup and Xfinity Series head to Phoenix Raceway for an important weekend.

The series will return to the 1-mile desert track to crown their champions in November. This weekend will give us a preview of who may be good then – and something new for the NASCAR Cup Series.

While nothing is new among the 36 entries for this weekend, what is new is an additional practice session, set for 5:05-5:55 p.m. ET Friday (see practice results below).

Why extra practice? The cars are coming to Phoenix equipped with an entirely new aero package. It’s aimed at making passing easier and spicing up the racing on tracks under a mile that has received lackluster reviews with the Gen 7 car.

BetArizona acquired the odds from DraftKings Arizona and provided them to The Racing Experts for this weekend.

Sitting at the top are two familiar faces. Kyle Larson won the Fall 2021 race, while Ryan Blaney has finished second in the last three races at Phoenix. Then, you have William Byron and Ross Chastain who won the races there last year.

Two driver changes and the addition of the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet highlight the Xfinity Series entry list at Phoenix Raceway.

Joey Gase Motorsports Ford will have Frankie Muniz, who finished 33rd for them at Daytona after an early wreck. Gase finished 29th and 30th in the No. 35 at Atlanta and Las Vegas.

Jordan Anderson Racing will have Ryan Vargas in the No. 32 entry. In the No. 32, Sage Karam finished 36th with a transmission issue in Las Vegas while Anderson finished fourth at Daytona and 38th with a steering issue at Atlanta.

Because of the No. 17 car’s historical performance and his Cup Series strength, William Byron is the odds-on favorite (+300). However, he will still need to qualify the car in the race – and will miss it if qualifying is canceled.

After Byron, you have two-time winner Justin Allgaier and John Hunter Nemechek who’s led double-digit laps in the last four Phoenix races he has been in.

Teammates Chandler Smith, Sheldon Creed and Aric Almirola fill up the top 10 favorites with last year’s Phoenix winners and some series favorites.

Just outside the top-10 favorites are A.J. Allmendinger (+1800) and Sam Mayer (+2200).

Allmendinger last raced at Phoenix in the Xfinity Series in 2021-22, finishing fifth, 14th, seventh and fifth in Fall 2022. A year later, in the most recent Phoenix race, Mayer finished fifth while running for a championship.
