NASCAR champion Brad Keselowski breaks leg during ski trip
CONCORD, N.C. — NASCAR Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski broke his leg Thursday while on a ski trip with his family, according to RFK Racing.

Keselowski underwent successful surgery on his broken leg. Doctors expect him to have a “quick and full recovery.”
“I’m grateful for the medical team who took great care of me and for the support system around me,” Keselowski said. “My attention now is fully on recovery. I’m motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona.”
Keselowski is in good spirits and surrounded by family, as he posted the following to social media:
Thursday marked 55 days until Keselowski will have to get in his No. 6 Ford Mustang to qualify for the Daytona 500. However, ten days before that, he has the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, which the injury may rule him out of.
If Keselowski can’t race in the Cook Out Clash, the question is — Who may fill in for him? TRE reached out to RFK Racing to confirm who the go-to reserve driver would be if someone in their main lineup can’t race.
When Keselowski’s wife was expecting a baby over the summer, RFK Racing had Joey Hand on standby at Watkins Glen and other drivers for the races at Richmond and Daytona. Names like Corey LaJoie and Ty Majeski have been floated around as possibilities from that time — however, TRE hasn’t been able to independently confirm that.
RFK Racing will share additional information as it becomes available.
Thursday also marked a tough day for RFK Racing with the loss of former driver Greg Biffle, who won 56 NASCAR races and two championships mostly under the Roush banner in the namesake of co-owner Jack Roush. Before detailing Keselowski’s injury, RFK Racing expressed their condolences.
“First and foremost, our hearts remain heavy with the news of yesterday’s tragic events. The RFK Racing family, as well as the NASCAR community as a whole, continues to keep those close to the Biffle family and all those affected in our thoughts,” the team stated.

RFK Racing earned 19 Cup wins with Greg Biffle, who earned his first win in July of 2003 at Daytona and his last win in June of 2013 at Michigan — his last of four wins at the two-mile, D-shaped oval.
RFK Racing is looking to reclaim some of that old glory in 2026 after going winless in 2025. The winless season wasn’t without a lack of effort as drivers Keselowski, Ryan Preece and Chris Buescher all came close to wins throughout the season.
