NCTS: Rain cancels St. Pete qualifying, Connor Mosack on pole

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series took to the slick streets of St. Pete for the first time in series history but rain became the headline for today’s sessions.

Since the rain shortened the day’s events, the starting lineup will be set by the NASCAR metric.

Connor Mosack will inherit the pole with Gio Ruggiero alongside him on the front row.

Many familiar faces, Indycar legends, and road course ringers gathered for this weekend.

From the Indycar realm is Dario Franchitti driving for Tricon Garage with his chief aggravation officer Jimmie Johnson on top of the box. They start sixth in the race after their short warm-up session together.

James Hinchcliffe also joins this weekend, taking over the No. 77 Spire Motorsports truck from Carson Hocevar. He will be accompanied by new Spire teammate, Connor Mosack, making his first of 12 events as the teammates start fourth and first respectively.

Then the reigning zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model Series champion, Ben Maier will make his Truck Series debut in the No. 4 entry for Niece Motorsports. He showed great speed in the limited running but will start 35th due to the metric.

IMSA regular Colin Braun also joined the fun as RAM’s free agent driver and was only able to get one lap, not even up to speed, in his No. 25 RAM. He will start near the middle of the bunch in 16th.

From the limited running in practice, Kaden Honeycutt set the fastest time with a 78.922 lap time. Maier slotted his truck in second with a 79.740. Ben Rhodes, James “Jimmy Hinch” Hinchcliffe, and Ty Majseki rounded out the top five runners in the short session.
