Ross Chastain claws through field for Bristol Top-10

Of all the Top-10 finishers in the Food City 500 Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway, Ross Chastain started the deepest, clawing his way to a seventh-place finish.

The Trackhouse Racing driver started 35th, making up 28 positions by the checkered flag on lap 500, the highest positive differential of any NASCAR Cup Series competitor in the race.

Additionally, NASCAR loop data shows Chastain had the most green flag passes in the 500-lap race at 95, second only to Brad Keselowski (106).

By the end of Stage 1 on Lap 125, Chastain ranked 22nd, and finished Stage 2 in 15th on Lap 250.

Although he didn’t score any stage points, Chastain spent 247 of the 500 laps racing inside the Top-15.

Chastain first cracked the Top-10 on Lap 362, ultimately finishing as one of the only nine drivers to finish on the lead lap.

Chastain extended his streak of consecutive Top-10 finishes to three, posting a seventh last week at Darlington and a sixth-place finish the week before at Martinsville.

Chastain outshined his Trackhouse Racing teammate at Bristol, as Daniel Suarez, who started the highest of the trio in 23rd, finished 33rd, six laps down.

Rookie Shane Van Gisbergen started 36th and was involved in the only caution for cause with Cody Ware on Lap 178. SVG finished 38th, out of the race with suspension issues after completing 208 laps.

Leaving Bristol, Chastain has a 31-point advantage over the NASCAR Playoff cutline, ranked 12th overall.
