Shane van Gisbergen becomes first Cup polesitter in Mexico City
MEXICO CITY — Shane van Gisbergen became the first polesitter for a NASCAR Cup Series race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

Van Gisbergen will lead the field to the first green flag for the Cup Series in Mexico. He won the pole for Sunday’s Viva Mexico 250 in a shortened qualifying period that left Ryan Preece, Ross Chastain, Ty Gibbs, Michael McDowell, Kyle Larson, Todd Gilliland, AJ Allmendinger, Joey Logano and Daniel Suarez, in 10th, just short of the inaugural honor.
In the two practice sessions Friday, Michael McDowell and Todd Gilliland were fastest.

Here is the full lineup and practice results.
