Watkins Glen to be open at full capacity

A year after racing was canceled at the track due to the COVID-19 coronavirus global pandemic, Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International announced Friday that they will be open to full capacity crowds for their August 4-8 NASCAR race weekend.
The grandstands will be fully open for the Aug. 8 NASCAR Cup Series, Aug. 7 NASCAR Xfinity Series, Aug. 7 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Aug. 6 ARCA Menards Series races taking place during the weekend.
The announcement comes after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that all COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in the state.
In a press release, Track President Michael Printup stated the following:
“We are thrilled to welcome fans back at 100 percent capacity to Watkins Glen International following clearance from New York state government and health officials. Fans are our lifeblood and their presence at the track creates the aura and energy this sport thrives upon. We are appreciative of Governor Cuomo and his administration for their diligent work and collaboration to help us safely and smartly host fans as we look ahead to our IMSA and NASCAR events this summer.”
In accordance with CDC guidelines, unvaccinated people are still required to wear a mask.
Watkins Glen will also host fans for their June 24-27 IMSA Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen and July 1-2 IMSA WeatherTech 240 race weekends.
