William Byron clinches 2025 NASCAR Cup regular-season championship
RICHMOND, Va. — With a 12th-place finish Saturday night at Richmond Raceway, William Byron clinched the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series regular season championship.

Byron needed to finish 19th or better in the race after Chase Elliott crashed out of the race on lap 198 of 400. He now leads Elliott by 68 points. The maximum points to make up in one race is 60.
Byron has two wins in 2025 — in the Daytona 500 in February and at Iowa Speedway in August. Those wins earned him 10 playoff points and the regular season championship earned him 15 more.
