William Byron ties Ryan Blaney in NASCAR Cup Series wins

By beating out Ryan Blaney for the Xfinity 500 win — and for a coveted spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 — William Byron tied Blaney on the series’ all-time wins list Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.

The two drivers each have 16 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series, ranking them 56th all-time. They each have three wins in 2025 too.

Byron led 304 of 500 laps at Martinsville — the most laps he has ever led in a single Cup Series race. In addition to winning and leading the most laps, Byron earned maximum points for winning both stages, running the fastest lap of the race and winning the race.

Does the two-time Daytona 500 champion consider Martinsville the best race of his career? Somewhat.

“I hope it’s not the best because I hope next week is good too,” Byron said to the media Sunday.

“…I do think from start to finish, it’s the best I’ve ever felt in the race car. That’s a damn good feeling,” he said.

Byron has two other wins this season but could’ve had much more, which he alluded to Sunday.

“I think it’s been a lot of work, a lot of heartbreak this year,” he said. “The (Coca-Cola) 600, different races. You just channel those things, learn from them. If you can learn from them, they become positives. They become things you lean on in the moment.”

Ahead of Byron and Blaney on the wins list are Marvin Panch and Curtis Turner at 17 wins — and then Geoff Bodine, Neil Bonnett, Harry Gant, Kasey Kahne, and Ryan Newman at 18 wins.

Prior to the start of the year, Byron and Blaney were tied for 59th all-time at 13 wins. Dick Rathmann and Tim Richmond also have 13 wins.

Byron will race Chase Briscoe, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson for the Cup championship Sunday, Nov. 2, at Phoenix Raceway.
