108th Indianapolis 500: Odds, TV times and practice speeds
The day is upon us. The 108th Indianapolis 500. Who may win? We may able to give you a good idea of who some of the perennial favorites are.

The 33 starters had five practice sessions where half or more of them turned a lap. From those sessions emerged three favorites.
Team Penske front row no fluke

Scott McLaughlin was fastest Wednesday and headlined the subsequent sessions. McLaughlin ran the second-fastest time Thursday, then was fourth-fastest Friday before grabbing the top starting spot on Pole Day.

Right along with McLaughlin, Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden has been near the top of the speed sheet, running fourth-fastest Wednesday, fifth Thursday and third Thursday.

Fellow teammate Will Power hasn’t been a slouch either. He was second-fastest Wednesday behind McLaughlin, was ninth-fastest Thursday and sixth Friday.
Non-Penske drivers showing speed

Colton Herta stands out on the practice sheets. Herta ran seventh-fastest in opening practice, then has consistently backed that up. He was third-fastest when Penske dominated practice Wednesday, then fourth Thursday, fastest Friday and fourth on Carb Day.

Scott Dixon bookended practice where he started it, running fastest on Carb Day after running fastest on Opening Day. His speed hasn’t been as consistent, as he’s only been as good as 10th-fastest in Thursday practice.
Never count Dixon out. He is the all-time laps leader in the Indy 500 with 665 laps led. With just one Borg-Warner Trophy from 2008 in the cabinet, and the sun setting on his evergreen career that is still going strong, the urgency is high.

Pato O’Ward also topped the speed chart Thursday. He has also shown consistent speed, clocking in fourth Tuesday, seventh Wednesday and Friday, and third on Carb Day.

Alex Palou also was among the 10-fastest drivers in three or more practice sessions. He ran eighth-fastest in Wednesday practice, third Thursday and ninth on Carb Day.
Kyle Kirkwood was also sixth-fastest Wednesday and eighth Friday.
Odds for the 108th Indianapolis 500
- Green flag: 12:45 p.m. ET NBC/Peacock, IMS Radio
- Full lineup: INDY 500: McLaughlin wins record-breaking pole, Siegel DNQ
- Milk preferences: The milk preference for every 2024 Indy 500 starter
The oddsmakers recognize the speed that the Team Penske drivers, Herta, O’Ward, Palou and Dixon showed in practice, as well as the speed that Arrow McLaren showed in qualifying.
However, they aren’t too keen on Kirkwood who, with his speed, could make for a strong value pick:
