3 Xfinity teams penalized for rear bumper cover infraction at Daytona

CONCORD, N.C. — NASCAR docked championship and playoff points from three Xfinity Series teams for infractions involving their rear bumper covers at Daytona.
These teams and drivers lost 20 championship points and five playoff points from each team. Each crew chief was also fined $25,000:
- No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing, driver Jeb Burton, crew chief Shane Whitbeck
- No. 28 RSS Racing, driver Kyle Sieg, crew chief Joseph Williams
- No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing, driver Caesar Bacarella, crew chief Kase Kallenbach
The sanctioning body cited these sections of the rulebook with each team’s infraction:
- 14.4.A. Unless otherwise specified, all body components must be used as supplied from the manufacturer without modifications.
- 14.4.11 C. For Superspeedway Events, the rear bumper cover Superspeedway extension, Five Star, part # 15001-45212, is required.
- 14.4.11 D. For Superspeedway Events, the rear bumper cover Superspeedway extension must conform to the following drawing1
NASCAR discovered these infractions during pre-race tech inspection at Daytona. The No. 27 team and eight other teams failed inspection on the first and second attempts, prompting NASCAR to revoke their pit selection for Darlington and eject a crew member from each team.
The eight other teams were:
- No. 7 JR Motorsports: Justin Allgaier
- No. 98 Stewart-Haas Racing: Riley Herbst
- Nos 29, 39 RSS Racing: CJ McLaughlin, Ryan Sieg
- No. 5 Our Motorsports: Anthony Alfredo
- No. 38 Viking Motorsports: Matt DiBenedetto
- Nos. 35, 53 Joey Gase Motorsports: Akinori Ogata, Joey Gase
With these eight teams, NASCAR didn’t find any infractions warranting a penalty, like they did with the Nos. 27, 28 and 45 teams.

Jeb Burton, who drives for the No. 27 team, remains playoff-eligible. Kyle Sieg and Caesar Bacarella aren’t because they missed races this season.
Sieg and Burton finished 15th and 17th, respectively, on the lead lap at Daytona. Bacarella crashed out on lap 94 of the 100 scheduled and finished 29th.
Bacarella’s other finishes this season are seventh at Talladega in April and ninth at Michigan, a week before Daytona.
